AUCKLAND, October 15. Rev. Howard Elliott was assaulted outside his residence this evening n connection with, which a returned solder named Christopher Charles Clements of Jtemuera and a brother-in-law Herbert Eugene McEntee, was arrested .
Ip a statement to a Herald reporter Clements said on returning to New Zealand recently he learned ijhat Rev. iElliotft had made statements about his late sister, a nun, who was drowned at Taumarunui a year ago.
110 said he had decided to thrash Elliott and armed with a cowhide horsewhip he waited for Elliott. 'Elliott was struck on the side of the head and face.
The two accused were liberated on bail to appear at the Police Court in the morning, when it is understood they will ask for a remand.
