MB. 0. W. II KAN INTER VI.KWKI) "May I ask why you have adopted the word ‘Hcenzo’ as the registered name for I lean’s Essence)-'” was a cpies tion put to Air. Mean the oilier day. “I am glad you asked that,” was the answer. “ as it gives me an opportunity m telling rciuli-rs why I have taken a step that seems to be puzzling not a few. The fact of the matter is, I have change d the name of Mean’s Essence to lleenzo (which word I have register-, ed a s a trade-mark) in order to protect the public against imitations of my preparation. ■•Tlie success achieved by I lean s Essence has brought to light unite a number of people who are seeking to make money at the expense of the public and myself. There have been discovered no less than seven imitatois at work putting up inferior substitutes. ff they had put up a cough mixture lmaring their own name I would h Ive ha(,l 11,1 quarrel with them, but in every instance they adopted a ficititious 11 line ol one syllable only so that it might easily he confused with my name. Against some of these I have obtained New Zealand Supreme Court injunctions restraining them Irom blither infringement of mv rights. Others have discontinued imitating Hean’s Essence without having to go to court. - 'The trade-marking of the word ‘•lleenzo” and its appearance on tlie cartons and bottles of all my preparations in future, will safeguard buyers against piracy. It is worthy of mention just here that several of the imitation* of Hean’s Esesnee were such in name only. Upon analysis they were found to he composed largely of paregoric and laudanum, extracts of the deadly habit forming opium drug, the inclusion of which in cough mixtures lor family use cannot lie too strongly discouraged. t ■■l hope the public will tolly realise the importance of availing thorns, Acs of the protection which the trade-mark • lleenzo” will afford them. Ol course there is still a good deal of genuine Healths Essence distributed through the country in' which does not bear the trademark name on the cartons and labels; hut this will soon he used up, and the name “Hcenzo” will quickly become as familiar as i lean’s Essence is now. lleenzo (Hean’s Essence) i s sold by most chemists and stores, or sent promptly post tree on receipt ol price 2s. from Mean’s Pharmacy, Wangan-
