At Newcastle, forty Seamen signed for two Interstate steamers and one oversea vessel. Others are applying for work at Melbourne. WARDS CANCELLED. SYDNEY, Oct. 4. The Industrial Court has canvu’wl tho registration of the Coast dirtr’et section of the Federated Engine Drivers Association of Australasia, and Coke Workers Association, and also cancelled tbe preference clause in the Cold Storage Workers Union award.

Although further Northern Collieries have opened to-day discontent is still evident in certain districts. The Knrri Karri miners have decided not to resume on the Maitland fields, maintaining that they are asked to accept humilitnting and unsatisfactory con- •: ditions. Mr. Fuller announced that until the men are prepared to resume work in all the mines, particularly in the Group, none will he opened. The federated seamen and firemen have decided not to resume until the wharf labourers come to terms, not J because of any grievance against the : shipping companies, but owing to the ! question of sailing with cargo loaded • by non-unionists. | Another meeting is fixed for Monday. Meantime efforts will be made to ! settle the wharf labourers’ trouble.
