General Haig reports the enemy heavily bombardod between Tower Hamlets and Polygon Wood. His infantry attempted to advance but our artillery broke the attack on tbe bulk of the front, before reaching the lines. .. few penetrated our barrage northward of Menin road. Our infantry completely repulsed them. Our positions are intact. There was a great artillery duel eastward of Ypres. Our aeroplanes dropped eight or ' s of bombs on -Tuesday, hits being observide on three aerodromes in Courtrai area and four near Cainbrai. Wo successfully attacked dumps near Douai and sidings at Roulers. The enemy attacked with long distance bombing, places far east of mulines.

artillery battle round Ypres continues fierce and far flung on both sides. The enemy are trying to" make things as bad as possible for a distance of twelve miles behind the line and in our back areas, tbe technical term for villages broken to bits, these last threo yoars and for camps, ammunition dumps, duckeboard tracks, light radway and cross roads. It is always astounding to see how little difference this hostile shelling makes in the way our men carry on the war.
