CABT.K ASSOCIATION] & RKUTKR.J (Received This Official.—A group of aeroplanes cross ed Esßex Coast at Rcven last evening, and headed for London. They were followed after a quarter of an hour, by ft second group. The first attack on London came from the north-east at 7.45 p.m. The majority were turned back, but one or more penetrated the defences and bombed the south-western district. At 8.15 p.m. a second group attempt ed to cross the defences north-east of North London unsuccessfully, until shortly after nine a few passed over London. Bombs wore again dropped on the south-western district. A third group of raiders crossed the coast, but did not penetrate far westward. They dropped bomb’s at various places. A fourth group crossed the Essex Coast 'and approached London shortly bjvfore ten, but did not penetrate beyond the north-eastern outskirts, where bombs were dropped. Reports of casualties and damage have not been received.

WELLINGTON, This Day.

The High Commissioner reports from London, 2nd October, 1917 at 2.5 p.m., as follows. London was attacked by aeroplanes to-night, but most of the raiders were turned back. Bombs were dropped m the south eastern and north eastern districts.
