THE MYSTERIOUS LAUNCH.
RUMOURS IN RAROTONGA. REPORTS OU A EIYK-M'ASTED SCHOONER. Reports have boon current in Rarotonga that a live-masted schooner was seen in tbe group by some' of the. natives. She was substantially built vessel, with no evidence of either owner or nationality. She did not ily flags nor exchange messages with the land, butdipped' into a bay and out out again. Natives on a'steamer which wasin (hose waters at the time states they saw her again at night. The possibility of her Dung a raider
is remote, as it is not probable that stu b a vessel would be detailed for such work, but it is suggested by sonic of the islanders that the larger vessel, from which the small launch may have landed carried coal for a raider. Tbe idea is made more possible by the fact that a raider was reported in that vicinity recently, but she was stated to have been caught. A report ciroulaled in that vicinity recently suggested that the large schooner may have been searching for the raider, and not finding ! her, landed a launch party to make inquiries. hoping that the story of a wager in a Honolulu hotel would sufficiently explain their presence.
