GENERAL ELECTION.
MR. PAYNE’S ROUND ROBIN. A good deal of amusement is being caused by Mr. Payne’s effort to test the real strength of members’ valiant assertions that they do not mind a general eletion. He has busily carried around the House a round robin for the Prime Minister in tho following terms:— “We, tho undersigned members of the House, desire to have a general election take* place this year.” So far only fifteen are on the list. They are.:— Payne, Grey Lynn. Sykes, Masterton. Fletcher, Wellington Central. Field,'xNelson. Glover Auckland Central. Young, Waikato. Hornsby, Wairarapa. Thacker, Christchurch East. M’Combs, Lyttelton. Brown,' Napier. Veiteli, "Wanganui. - Statham, Dunedin. Witty, Riccarton. Walker, Dunedin. Webb, Grey. Afr. Payne lias got to get forty-one signatures to gain his point, but the nearer be approaches the goal the harder will be the task.
