Mr. Anderson moved to strike out. in Clause 8, the word “eight" with a view to inserting “six.” The amendment was carried without debate by IT to 2S. The lion. \Y. T\ .Massey at once said that In' accepted the position on hehali of the Government and moved that “six o’clock” be inserted in lieu of “eight o’clock.” . The amendment was on r 26. ■ . Mr. Witty moved an amendment, having for effect the repeal if the nntiShouting Legislation. After some discussion the, amendment was lost hw 37 to 21. Mon W. I*'. Masscv moved an amendment providing for the re-adjustment of rents, etc., of licensed premises as between' the landlord and tenant ; also a new clause providing that whore rents were reduced,, the occupier was entitled to a refund of rates from the local body. The Rill was read a third time and passed without .debate.
After eight o’clock was struck out ot the Rill, Tfoti. W. E. Massey said that he recognised that the question oT the liquor traffic must he settled one way or the. other. Though not yet filially settled, Cabinet was considering the do suability of endeavouring to settle it as suggested by the Efficiency Board. Sir Joseph Ward supported ijlic Premier. Neither ho, nor any other man could carry on the finances of the country unless the source of revenue was permanent. Therefore, the ques--1 ion must be settled one way or the other.
