Thanks to generosity; of patrons in donating prizes, the ited Cross Committee have decided to offer four prizes at the Rod Cross Juvenile Fancy Dress Ball on Monday next. That is one each to tho girl and boy under nine years, and one each to the girl and boy of nine years and over, weaning the best original costume. A fine night , lias been ordered, and it is hoped to see the Drill Shed filled with happy children. With a view to further increasing the Red Cross Funds it is conjectured that almost every householder has some damaged articles of gold or silver which could be melted down and sold. ( jewellery, old silver photograph frames, odd sleeve links, broken or worn silver thimbles, bracelets, brooches, chains, Cigarette oases, coins, etc., will be gratefully" received at the Drill Shed on Monday afternoon and night, and by the secretaries at the County Office and railway station at any time. The people of Hokitika and surrounding districts will he pleased to know that Dowell Bros, of RevoH Street are starting a motor service to run from Otira to Hokitika and vice versa. They havo arranged with their agent (Mr. T. Rugg) to book for them at Christchurch and passengers wishing to avert stopping at Greymouth over-night can arrive in Hokitika the same time as the express does at Greymouth. A car will leave Hokitika on ’ Saturday morning to connect with the overland coaches at Otira. Fares will be £l, single. Booking with Dowell Bros. Hokitika or T.
