Apropos of tho matter raised nt the Chamber of Commerce this weok, with regard to dairying being affected by recruiting, as brought up by tho Wataroa Dairy Coy., the following reply hag Efficiency Commissioner by the local been received from tho Canterbury Advisory Committee at Hokitika: “Your favour of tho 27th. August to gather with enclosure from Vataroa Dairy Co. Ltd. arrived during my Rl>sonsco in Wellington, nnd I have delayed replying pending some decision of the Government as to the reorganisation of the Board, the necessity for which has been brought about by the present. Commissioners resigning, due in their opinon to tho Board’s recommendations not receivng the prompt attention, the trouble nnd work in arriving at same involved. Tho whole matter is still uncertain, too uncertain to carry out my intention of getting Mr. Burbury to visit your district, hut in the meantime I will acquaint the Chairman of the MilitaryService Board of the peculiar position of Dairy Factories in small communities. “I am aware this does not provide tho element of certainty sought, a'nd which is no doubt necessary in carrying on this industry in some localities, hut it certainly should help somewhat.’ Dairying companies in Westland have been advised of the above for such action as they mnv think necessary.
