LATE LOCALS.
Mr. A. C Reynolds has been advised that his son Lieut. A. W. Reynolds ha s been admitted to hospital on August 31st, injury slight. This is th 6 first time ho has been laid aside, after two years at tho front. The Westport Neiws says: Mr. Ernest Atkin, editor of the Grey River Argus, formerly on the Literary staff of tho Evening Post has been appointed to succeed the late Mi’. John Christie a 8 editor of the Hawora Star. Mr. Charles Sheriff one of the best known sports on the West Coast died in tho Westport Hospital on Monday morning aged 46 years. Cliarlie was a native of Auckland and had an athletic career which included rowing (a member of the Kawatiri Championship crew), football (captaining Buffer on numerous occasions) and swimming. Cabled news comes of the death from wounds, of Rifleman Wm. Mangos, a member of the well-known Lyell family. Deceased who was some 32 years of ago was engaged in contracting before he enlisted. He leaves a widow and one child just recently horn.
