BLACKBALL FATALITY.
MAN BURNT TO DEATH
A sad fatality occurred at Blackball early on Saturday morning, whereby a miner named Joseph Ernest Gunn, 39 years of age, lost his life. He had only been in Blackball for a few weeks, and was seen to retire to his hut early in the evening. About 1 o’clock in the morning, it. glare was noticed coining from the building, and neighbors were soon on the scene, but too late to render assistance, the charred remains of the man being subsequently found in the destroyed building. The deceased was well and favourably known in this district, being the second son of an old and respected resident ol" Cobdeti, in the person of Mrs. T. X. Gunn. In his early days 110 followed a seafaring life and latterly liad adopted mining as his occupation. Ho was popular with hosts of friends he made and to them his tragic end is a source of poignant, regret. Ills brothers are James (Roxborougli), Albert and Charles (Greymouth) while Mrs. End rill (of Greymouth) and Mrs Angus Gunn (of Auckland) are sisters.
