A FRENCH REPORT,

(Received this day at 12.30 a.m.) LONDON September 9.

A French report says on the right o. the Aleuse wo attacked the enemy lines in tho morning on a front of 2$ kilometres in the sector of Fosses and Couriores’ woods. It was a complete success, despite desperate resistance. Wo extended north of Fosse’s and carried the whole of Chaulmo Wood and line west, dominating the whole of Oouriercs Wood.

HAIG’S REPORT. . (Received this day at 1.20 a.m.,) LONDON, Sept. 8. General Haig reports artillery activity, but no infantry actions.

Sir Douglas Haig reports: Wo successfully raided in tho neighbourhood of Gavrcllo and there was patrol fighting north-east of St. Julien. Tho enemy heavily shelled Langemarek. FRENCH REPORT LONDON, September 8. A French communique states:.

There is reciprocal artillery activity at various points particularly east of Vauxaillion in the Champagne, and in the mountain region on both hanks of the Aleuse .

AIR RAID ON CALAIS

PARIS, September 8,

During the recent air raid on Calais hundreds of poisoned cakes were dropped. A hundred Germaun prisoners who were being removed were mistaken for Britishers and an enemy plane dropped bombs, killing fortythreo and wounding forty-seven.

HOSPITALS BOAIBED

LONDON September 7,

Tho Germans bombed tho American and British hospitals on the French ooast on Tuesday night. Tho attack was deliberate like the previous raids on hospitals near the front, hut did little damago except at the Harvard Hospital, where one American medical officer was killed and three wounded Sixteen others were wounded, ten being patients.
