' The submarine appeared oh Scarborough at 7 o’clock in the evening and opened lire two miles from the shore. A -dozen shells fell on tho town. The mine-sweepers returned the fire but the submarine submerged and disappeared in a few minutes.

Mr. Havelock Wilson said tho Seamen had decided to see that after tho war, Germans foul deeds were punished. whatever Government might do and every crime hereafter would be recorded for punishment. Congress thou welcomed the President of the Mining section of tho American Convention of Labour, who on behalf of the organised workers of the lTiled States said they were deter-j mined that Prussianisin, and all it represented, should be consigned to everlasting perdition.

Nine Victoria. 'Crosses have been awarded, including Corporal Leslie Walton Andrew of New Zealand Infantry
for conspicuous bravery. While in charge of a small party taking an enemy’s position, Andrews objective was a niacliine-gun post, which had been located in an isolated building. Leading his men forward, lie encountered
unexpectedly a machine-gun post which was holding up the, advance of another
company. Andrews immediately attacked, capturing tihe machine-gun and killing several of the crew.
He then continued to attack on the machine-gun post which was his origin al objective. He displayed great skill, and determination in Ills disposition, finally capturing tlio post and killing several of the enemy, and putting to flight the remainder. Andrews conduct throughout was un exnmpled for cool daring, iniative and fine leadership and was an magnificent example and fine stimulant to his comrades.
