Mr. Michael Powerly, Reefton is advised that his son Jack, has been wound ed in France, and is reported as a sovoro ease.

Corporal. Thos! Williams of Reefton, who left with the 20tli Reinforcements, is reported as being wounded slightly remaining with unit Mrs. Con. Crowley, Church, street, Reefton, has received word from the Do fence Department that her son, Jack has been paralysed in, one arm. Mrs. Remnant of Reefton lias received word that her husband, Private W. J. Renmant had been invalided home, and was expected to arrive in the Dominion on Sept. 15th.

:Ur. Hugh Ryan, of Reefton lias received word that his brother, Rifleman Andy Ryan, has had his leg amputated ns the result of the injury ho sustained at the front.

A Wellington telegram states that the Rev. S. J. Garlick formerly Wesleyan Minister at Greymouth was dead. Deceased who was 69 years of age was in Greymouth some fifteen years ago. He had for tho last two years been stricken with paralysis. He-leav-es a widow and a grown-np family. The programme at Pritchard’s Pictures last evening was a very enjoyable one. The star drama “A Girl Like That” was » very interesting and cleverly acted production, while *, the Travelogue- was very enjoyable. The audience was fairly broken up with the -comedy “The Butcher Boy” . in which Fatty Arbuckle and his comicalities proved highly diverting. The. orchestra as usual played a very enjoyable programme. . The death of Mrs. Donald Cameron took place at Reefton on Monday afternoon after a most tedious illness, at the age of 74 years. The deceased lady, who was horn' in Ireland, went to Reefton many years ago, and her late husband, Mr. Donald Cameron, who for many years was engaged in driving coaches in Westland in connection with his brothers John and Hugh Cameron. Deceased leaves a grown-up family of three' daughters and two , sons, Mi Donald Cameron (Blnckwater) and Mr. Frank Gatneron of Hokitika, are sons.

Private A. Ilende and Rifleman R. Hansen, wounded at the battle of tho Somme about eleven months ago,-and now invalided home, arrived last night. Tho Overseas Club arranged for the transport of tho men from Otira to Hokitika by motor car, and tho party, which included the men’s friends, arrived here at G. 45 o’clock. Tho returned soldiers were ‘heartilw welcomed by the Deputy Mayor (Mr. Coulson) and representatives of tho Overseas Club, after which they were entertained at tho Red Lion Hotel at the evening meal. Later the soldiers wero the guests of Mr. Pritchard at the Opera House pictures, and during the interval tlie Deputy-Mayor extended a public welcome to the men, who were received with applause and cheers. The Automobile Club arranged to take Hansen and party home last night, while Mr Hende remained in town and is visiting Groymouth to-day before going on to Ross. Both men were seriously wounded and have had long illnesses. The sea voyage has done them a great deal of good, and they have greatly improved in health. They had a very hearty welcome from friends last night, the stimulus of which together with their native air should help further to set them up. Hansen may havo to go to a sanatorium for further treatment, but Hondo is to remain at Ross for a time. Private Wells who returned on the staff of tho ship, will be paid off this or next week at Dunedin, and granted furlough before being called into camp again. The returned men report a good sea trip home which was heightened in interest by the passage through America’s great canal.

A farewell social will be tendered to Private Benedict Gamberazzi at Goldftbo rough on Thursday evening. All returned soldiers and soldiers on leave are cordially invited to attend.—Advt.
