The Matin describing the capture of Hill 304 says we have-secured the last observation post surrounding Verdun, and now dominate the enemy from eac side. . , A striking feature of the fighting, is the large, number of officers imprisoned in proportion to men. This reverses the previous experience and indicates that tie German Army’s morale is weakening.
FRENCH TRAITORS. (Received, ®u.Ugj* A surprising development ooouned in the so-called “Bonnet Rouge” affair. Almeryeda, late editor of the Bonnot Rouge newspaper, was recently arrested on a charge of possessing a secret document. He has committed suicide mysteriously in prison. Many officials have been-eashiered and reduced for D< Duval, the manager of the “Bonnet Rouge” who was simultaneously arrested on tho Swiss Frontier, on - charge of trading with the enemy, has since been charged with treasonable relations with tho enemy. The police found a compromising cheque on Duval, hut returned it to him, after photographing it. The police chief has now been dismissed. _ “Liberte” states Almeryeda conferred in Switzerland with the notorious Austrian financier, Rosenburg, whose operations were partly responsible for the second Balkan war. , A GERMAN’S LETTER.

A captured Gtrman’s letter to hisfather, written at Lens says—“l would rather goto Hell, than continue within this imprisoning circle of shells. Thirty-five of my company of a hundred were casualties during an hour. The faces of tbo others are the faces of condemned awaiting death. The English have a: will of iron against which we are vainly exhausting ourselves.

The ■ “Journals” correspondent at Verdun says the Irench had more n. lillery than infantry in the firing line. This tactical success enabled them to achieve*in five day as result which took.the Germans five months. BAVARIANS AGITATED.

Telegrams from Munich allege that the Bavarians agitated by their enormous losses in Flanders, declare the Kaiser and General Hindenburg are allowing the flower of manhood of .Bavaria to be massacred in order to spare the Prussians. TRENCH RECAPTURED.
