CORRESPONDENCE.

HOKITIKA PUBLIC LIBRARY

(To the Editor.)

Sir.—AS a visitor to this town may I venture to suggest that it is a mistake to-close the above Institution on Wednesday afternoon and evenings. Wednesday is your early closing day tor shops and stores etc., Give us a wet Wednesday as we have recently had, and a closed library. What is there to do in the way of relaxation? Of course none would wish to deprive the courteous librarian of her weekly day off, hut seems to me that Thursday afternoons and evenings off would possibly suit lief quite as well as Wednesday. Before closing this letter 1 wish to ask whether you have over noticed how cold a library room seems to become after you have sat still reading in it for a (Ample of hours with no fire burning? Warmth and reading are good friends t-> the reader while cold and reading are deadly enemies and make one shun a library like a plague-house. 1 am etc., READER. Aug. 23rd, 1917.
