The Grand National Meeting of the Canterbury Jockey Club opened to-day ■in splendid weather. Tho attendance was. excellent, and the- going good. Results: HUNT CLUB CUP.—Kaupokonui i, I Wellwood 2, Golden Butterfly 3. Scr I —Handsome Boy. Kaupokonui was alI ways well placed, and won by half a length, Butterfly being ten 4 lengths away. Time 5.32 3-5. TRIAL HURDLES. —Dionysisus 1, Compulsion 2 Miss Sation 3. All started. Compulsion was in muni at, uno mile post and led over the last hurdle,' hut Dionysisus in a vigorous finish won by a length., Two lengths between second and third. Time 3.22 3-5. GRAND NATIONAL HURDLES. SLEIGHT-OF-HAND 1 SIR SOLO 2 SIR FISHER 3 Sleight-of-Hand was in front at the end of half a mile and won easily by six lengths, Sir Fisher - being six lengths away. Art and Leonta fell and Rewi Poto pulled up. Time 4.49. AVONBEAD HANDICAP.—Euripos 1, Minesweeper 2, Epworth 3. Scr. —Grand Idea, Thames, Ascalaphus, Kimbolton. Won by half a length. Time 1.17 4-5. , GRAND NATIONAL STEEPLECHASE. MASTER STROWAN 1 ST ELMN - ••• 2 CRIB 3 All started. Diavolo led tho field with Strowan and Crib next, for two miles. Then Strowan took charge at the last fence, and won easily by eight lengths, Nita fourth. Merry Lad fell. Time 7.19.
