SEVERAL MEN PINED

As a- sequel tq a riot in the centre of the city last night, eight men appeared at the Magistrate’s Court to-day. It is staled that the trouble arose over the arrest of a fireman who refused to leave licensed premises. The police were interfered with by the, mates of the man arid later a big crowd joined in the disturbance, which lasted about two hours. Some twenty police eventually appeared and the mounted constables cleared the crowd. Harvey Nicholas, the man who w.*r tlie main cause, of the disturbance was sentenced to three mopths’ imprisonment in addition to lineSL Sydney Reich charged with obstructing a, constable while in the execution of hia, duty*.was .fined £o.
