GORED BY A BULL
NELSON, Aug. 11. A boy named Cecil Ross, 17 years of ago, was yesterday fatally gored by a bull on his father’s farm at Upper Moutere. He was discovered shockingly mutilated and died before the arrival of the doctor.
GALE IN WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, Aug, 14. A cyclonic gale that raged yesterday from the north, died down in the evening- . , During tlio night & southerly sprang up, accompanied by a steady downpour of rain. Considerable damage was done to fences, and gardens, and telegraph and telephone lines wore knocked about. GAS WORK STRIKE ENDED WELLINGTON. This Day. The retort hands at the Gas Works who stopped work on July Bth resumed work yesterday. • A FATALITY. AUCKLAND, This* Day. James W. Hooker, aged 58 years .was knocked down in the street by a Maori, who was endeavouring to escape arrest. When,pursued by a Constable the Maori collided violently with Hooker who complained of severe pains in the abdomen and leg. He was conveyed to the hospital where he dieQ.
PETONES PROTEST. (Deceived this day at 1.20 a.m.,) ELLINGTON, August 10. The Petone Borough Council tonight passed a resolution unanimously protesting against the age limit under the Military Service Act being reduced to nineteen years.
FLOUR WORKERS PROTEST

The Flour Mill Employee Union passed ft resolution that this meeting protests against the action of tho Government in allowing Australian flour to be dumped in Now Zealand to tho detriment of the flour trade here. If relief is not soon given the mills, which are.full of flour will have to .shut down and men will bo out ofwork. 'fho Union telegraphed to Mr. Maswlio replied that the position was receiving tho earnest consideration of Government.

HASTINGS, Aug. 13th,
Obituary.—Rev. Father Augustin© Keogh S.M. R..A., nftor a long illness. He was horn in Dublin in 1858. Ho was one of the best known nnd most popular priests of the Catholic Church. From 1901 to 1909 he was Rector of St. Patrick’s College. Wellington, during which time 400 boys enjoyed the privilege of his direction. Succeeding Dean Smyth, in 1909, ho took charge of Hastings Parish, and administered here until. 1915, when ho again joined the staff of St. Patrick s College. The funeral takes placo at Hastings on Thursday.
