Huxsmani, one of the organisers of the Stockholm Conference is opposed to the view that the resolutions should be binding. The New York “Times” correspondent at Washington says the State Department after representations opposing an ultra severe embargo, has finally sanctioned complete rationing of neutrals suspected of supplying Germany. Neutrals are to supply figures to United States, and are requested to support their claims of not supporting Germany. To date fho value of Victorian gold production was £297,794,000. Fifteen mining companies wore registered in 1916, with a nominal capital of £129,150 and subafrihed a capital of £105,520. The total numbor of men employed in mining during the year was 8186. In all, 417.831 tons of black coal, and 2195 ton« of brown coal were mined. The brown coal resources of the State, he sau’ were receiving renewed attention of the Government. To the manufacturer this development was a most important one, as the power which might be generated by large plantß on the fields could be conveyed to Melbourne by trunk lines in any quantity.
