BURNED TO DEATH. . MAORI WOMAN 100 YEARS OLD. GISBORNE, This Day. At Tplago, Leini Rangi, a Native woman, aged 100 years, was burned to death. She had been sleeping in a tent and was left with a candle burning. Next morning the charred remains of the tent were-found, the woman’s body lying just beyond the circle of fire. WELLINGTON This Day Sir Jainos Allen replying to a press man’s questions as to whether any definite arrangements had been made for the early medical examination of the Second Division members said he had not yet received a reply from the Medical Association as to whether it can sup ply twenty doctors for tho purpose. Until he received this reply ho could make no announcement. FINED £IOO. AUCKLAND, This> Day. At the Police Court William Ryan, - bookmaker, was fined £IOO for betting on licensed premises. Mr. Fraser S.M. said where. a ; bookmaker had a reputation for honesty and square dealing, he did not believe in imposing imprisonment. Defendant, however, had got to the stage when he must expect to be fined the maximum every time he was eaught. DEATH OF CENTENARIAN. AUCKLAND, Tluy Day. Mrs Margaret Jackson has died m Auckland. She was 101 years and four months old.
