BIG FIGURES. THE WAR COST. (Received this day at 12.30 a.rii.) MELBOURNE, August 8. The Federal Treasurer announced the new taxation" proposals included an additional income tax oi ten per cent with a minimum of ten pinuida each in the case of "widowers without children and unenlistod single men from 21 to 45. It is expected to produce half a million in the present year and will lie devoted to repatriation of soldiers in war time. It provided taxes estimated, to yield one million in the' two years 1915 1917. ’ MELBOURNE,. August 8. The 'Treasurer in his Budget statement says the Federal receipts for the current year are estimate at £37,283,832 and expenditure at £37,283,832, out of which £13,109,351 will he devoted to war purchases 'from revenue.

. War loans raised or to be raised are estimated at £70,253,590. War expenditure out of loan totals £84,051,230," • T The total war expenditure including this year’s estimates totals £212,741,509 war pensions £2,037,108 repatriation one million. Provision will have to be made for raising £64,005,922 for war purposes.

Beyond taxing eligibles there will be additional demands during the present year.
