FRENCH REPORT.
LONDON, Aug. 4. * A French communique states: Bad weather continues on the whole front in Belgium. Aiter a violent bombardment south of Cerny tho Germans launched on a front of 1500 metres violent attacks, all of which our n., repulsed with heavy losses. There if an artillery duel on both banks of the river Meuse and is especially lively in the region of Avocourt Wood and Hill 304.
ENEMY ATTEMPTS FAIL.
LONDON, Aug. 4
A French eomunique states: Despite bad weather in Belgium we pro-, grossed beyond Kortokeer Cab area, and reconnoitercd farms beyond the front. Wo readied and repulsed tho enemy patrols. There is reciprocal artillery activity on )>oth banks of the Meuso. Two enemy attempts in the region of Avocourt Wood failed.
ALLIES MAKE PROGRESS
LONDON, Aug. 4,
Sir Douglas Haig reports: W*» recaptured the remaining trench which the enemy forced on Thursday night, eastward of Moncby-le-Preux. The positions here have been completely re-established. The "Allies further progressed eastward of Kortekeor Cabaret. There was heavy rain in the night.'
GERMAN REPORT.
LONDON, Aug. 4
German official.—English advances on the Nieuport-Westende road, west of Bischoote and Langemark failed. Tho enemy is bombarding Roulers. There ware advanced engagements northwards of La Basse© Canal, > Morichy, and Havrieourt, which favoured us. We drove out the French who had pentrated trenches' on the Laon-Sois-sons road. We captured the southern end of a tunnel at Cerny. -We repulsed attacks on the left bank of the Mouse. - ■ v.

General Haig reports the weather is wet and stormy. We gained ground northwnrdwestward of St Julien. There was considerable hostile art.illerying eastwards of Messines and Nienport sector.
