The enemy forced us back across tho Zbrucz elsewhere. Our losses were great. The enemy forced our retirement between ,'tho Dneister and the Pruth, east of Cerement. AUSTRIANS ADVANCING, i LONDON, Aug. 2. j Austrian official: Wc are advancing towards Kimpolung. We forced ' the I Russians to retreat after a fierce fight south-eastward and north-westward of Gzernowitz.
RUSSIAN GENERALS DEMAND
FOR PURGING OF ARMY. (Received, This Day at 8.60. a.m.) LONDON August 2. The Morning Post’s Petrograd eorresposndent says the fighting Generals have sent an ultimatum to M. tverensky declaring that the army must be purged of all politics and thoroughly supported as a fighting machine by sound organisation. Unless the necessary changes are immediately effected the Generals and many other officers will resign.
