AGAINST PACIFICIST GATHERING, j BRICKS And STONES USED (Received This Day at 9.50. a.m.) LONDON, July 29. A large crowd headed by many soldiers, attacked tho Brotherhood Church north London, where a peace conference organised by a so-called Workers’ and Soldiers’ Council bad assembled. Tho Pacifists barricaded the building and fought strenuously. The crowd broke the windows. Bricks stones and portions of iron railings were used by both sides. I Mounted police unavailingly tried ro j intervene. . s Ultimately the doors wore forced aim there was a sccno inside. The furniture was smashed and delegates flung from the platform. Several wore injured and the inside of the building was completely wrecked. Mr. Anderson a Commoner who intended to preside and Mrs. Phil cum»don escaped during the melee. . !• Soldiers and sailors broke up a similar conference at Newcastle.
