The United Press correspondent, at Headquarters reports that tine artillery activity continues especially in the FlaLders-Nieuport sector, where (tno duel is ceaseless. Th Germans hurled thirty gas sheas •into Dunkirk. Tho British artillery opened thirty minutes concentrated firing after midnight and tho Germans retaliated by shelling oaswards and northward of Nieuport. i • Germans raided near Hamecourt, but w-hile taking prisoners the British field guns cleverly sniped the captors causing them to scatter. A French communique states ThcGermans employed a full division supported by a fresh division in the attack on the 25th from the region east of Hurtebise to south of Lahovrelle. The smallness of the. results^ emphasises the severity of the defeat. After an intense bombardment, the Gormans made five successive attacks in the mountainous region south-west of Morgonvillers but failed . HAIG’S REPORT. • ' LONDON, July 27. General Haig reports during the local fighting in the neighbourhood of Labassenc© south westward of Warneton, we drove the enemy from the village. Tho enmy counter-attacked in the morning and we withdrew from the village.' We successfully at night raided in the neighbourhood of Monchy soutuwe si ward of Labassee, • northwestward of Yprcs. / A Gorman raid yesterday morning southeastward of Ooveleaucourt led to sharp fighting and considerable enemy loss. The High Commissioner reports from London at 11-40 p.m. on 28th July: General Haig reports successful aerial activity and patrol encounters prisoners being captured. HAIG’S REPROT. LONDON July 28. Sir Douglas Haig reports: We repulsed an attack eastward of Costaverne. The enemy artillery is active in •the neighbourhood .of Armentieres, northward of the Ypres-Niouport sector.
