A disabled Union poy steamer arrived ajj midnight. An accident occurred in heaw weather, winch is supposed to have heeri a contributing factor to the fracture of hearings. It was a very peculiar ant} unusual accident,„ the source of which is not definitely settled, hut there is no suspicion of improper interference with the machinery. ** The engineer made temporary. repairs, and t-Jie was enabled to steam back to port at five knots. ; ' - ltepairs will be made here by the Union Compariy’s shore staff. GENERAL GODLEY HONORED. WELLINGTON, July 26. The High ‘ Commissioner has cabled that General Godlfey has been awarded the Cross of the Commander ot the Legion of Honour hv the French President.
