Another salmon was found stranded at Black Point (on the Waitaki). it weighed 38 -lb, and had teeth nearly as larg© as the 60-pounder. The saimon only* got these tooth when they leave the sea, it being Nature’s provision for assisting them to. fight their way up the rivers to tho spawning beds.

Complaints are being made by vehicle drivers using Kelly’s Lioen bridge on the Christchurch road at the narrowness of tho structure, I tie bridge is said to be far too narrow for ordinary vehicle traffic, and some coach drivers have boon /getting into trouble with their- teams, the horses T *-i n g alarmed by the visikm they get of the running water below, The bridge i‘ very suitable for motor car traffic, and it is a pity while construction was in hand that the planking was not increased to ensure safety of tho crossing for vehicles with teams. The annual report of tho State Coal Mines Department states the gross output of Coal for the year from the mines was 265,782 tons being an »*• ! crease of 15,943 tons as compared with the previous year.
