(l’ei Press Association — Copyright) THE IRISH SETTLEMENT. QUESTIONS IN THE LuRDSj AUSTKALIAN & N.Z. CABUE ASSOCIATION (Received, This Day at 8.50. a.m.) LONDON, July 20. In the LJords, Lord Dunraven as&etf—whether, in view of the political situation in Ireland, Government would undertake not to legislate in accordance with the Conventions proposals, until the proposals were subihitted to the Irish people. Government’s attitudo towards the Convention is not quite clear. He understands Government proposed to legislate in the event of the Convention reaching a. substantial agree ment outside the Convention, because the Convention did not consist of delegates in tho ordinary acceptance of the term.
Lord Curzou replying, said he could not say what would be Government's attitude on a referendum. Government did not intend to take advantage of tho Convention, to force any scheme on Ire laud in order ,to get Government out of its difficulties at the cost of Irish dis content. Government would sanction a scheme only if it might reasonably be expected to receive Ireland’s support.
