NOXIOUS WEEDS.
The Fields Division of the Agricultural Department is doing everything possible in the present adverse circumstances tb prepare for and carry out an educative campaign amongst the farmers in regard to the best meatis of coping .with noxious weeds in’different circumstances, stated Mr. F. S. Pope Secretary for Agriculture, in a paper read before tfye council of Agriculture at Wellington. ' The Dominion has been divided into nine district® and in eight pf those a field supervisor has been located, me ninth district being supervised byj tbo headquarters of the division. Each of those supervisors was an experienced man in agricultural operations particularly as regards* the control of weeds, and they were doing all that was possible with the assistance of the field inspector©, to impress 1 upon farmers the methods to adopt. In addition a couple of dozen well' educated' men were now in training uk the Central Development Farm, Werar oa, and should in the course of two t)l three years provide a valuable addi- ■ tion to the Department’s expert staff i in this direction. j It would thug be seen that there was j good reason to hope that the next few i years would see a great deal of work don© of a kind that would do more to really abate the weeds nuisance and,' at the same time improve the farming j practice throughout the Dominion than j all the cutting of noxious growths that ! had been carried out sinco the Act I came into' force.
