Bonar Law said that the Government was inlluencotl in its Mesopotamia decision by tlie undesirability of distracting the attention of legislature at this critical time from tbe prosecution of ’the war. On the Foreign sseerotary’s ■ representations the Governnvoht had decided that it would be detrimental to deprive the Foreign office of Lord Harding’s services.- 1 Mr. J. Dillon obtained leave to move, the adjournment to discuss the Government’s refusal to accept Lord ITardingc’s resignation. Chamberlain liad resigned although he had not been censured. Yet Lord Hardinge, who was responsible to an infinitely greater degree was allowed to remain. All should be’ equally treated. Lord Hardinge because he stood well in society and supported a> powerful influence, was allowed to. ride off in honour. What bo (Air. Dillon) bad learned from the, Dardanelles report would he very unpleasant. Something had yet to % learned from the Gaza operations. Mr. A. J. Balfour heatedly defended Lord Hardinge.
