HONOURING TWO SISTERS OF MERCY. CELEBRATIONS AT ST. MARY’S. An event that has been looked forward to for some time by the Catholic community was celebrated at St. Mary’s Church this morning at ton o’clock, when the Church was crowded to it* j doors with a large and attentive congregation. The special occasion, which was honoured by the Right Rev. Dr. Brodie Bishop of Christchurch, coming over specially for the ceremony from Christchurch Yesterday, was for the purpose of celebrating and commemorating the. Silver Jubilee of two of the , Sisters of St- Columkilies’ Convent — , Mother Mary Vincent (Moller) and , Mother Mary Elizabeth (Bourke). | The occasion was celebrated by the holding of a High Mass. The celebrant ! was Rev. Doan Regnault, of Canterbury, the Doacon being Rev. Father Hanrahan, of Ah aura, and Rub-Deaco n Rev. Father Reardon of Ross, while Rev. Father Clancy was if aster of Ceremonies. In the sanctuary were also the Bishop of Christchurch, Right Rev. Dean Carew of Grey mouth, Dean Hyland of Christchurch, Rev. Father Peoples of Grey mouth, Rev. Father Creed Kumara and Rev. Father Eccleton of Reef ton. | The Right Rev. Dr. Brodie preached a very impressive sermon on the life of the two Sisters, who were celebrating their Jubilee, and their work during their long service for tho Church the Bishop’s remarks greatly impressing the large congregation. The choir was present in full strength, tho wholo ceremony being a most solemn and impressive nature that deeply appealed to the attentive congregation present, which included many representatives from all pails of tho district. This afternoon another ceremony 1s taking place, when Miss Mary Williams will’ be admitted info t-ho Order of Religeuse. • , , In the evening the two silver jubilee celebrants are being entertained at- a concert in St. Mary’s Schoolroom by ex-pupils of the Convent.
