Eleven hundred troublesomo agitators in a hundred cattle trucks were deported to Mexico. . The men were mostly strangers; who had. 1 fomented labour troubles and terrorised the workers for weeks. It culminated in Sheriff Wheeler calling out at midnight a meeting of citizens, when he enrolled two thousand deputies, and distributed revolvers, with orders not to shoot, except in self-de-fence. , At dawn the deputies swept down and reached the houses and rounded up the strangers in a park enclosure, where they wero kept till they were interned. Shots wore frequently exchanged, and two of the I.W.W. wero fatally shot. This is the beginning of a campaign to clear the country of German inspired plots to dislocate the industries.
