FRENCH OPERATIONS

LONDON, July 4

A French communique states: The Germans all night made a strong offensive against the whole of our position north of Jouy, as far as the eastern edge of the California Plateau. On this immense front they launched vdolemit attacks with large forces of special assaulting troops, who directed their efforts principally to the east of Froidmont Farm, west and south-west of Corny, sortli of the pateau of Aiesddddd Corny, north of the plateau of Ailles, also to the casemates of the Californio Plaotau. The defeat of the enemy was compelte, and Ids losses were very heavy. Wo almost the assaulting troops, especially in tho region of Corny and the Californio Plateau. At some points where the Germans gained a footing at tho first impact our counter-attack victoriously repulsed the enemy, who was unable to retain a single metre of our trenches. There is reciprocal artillerying in tho region of Hill 304. IX FULL ACCORD. (Received, This Day at 8.60. a.m.) PARIS, July 6.

M. R.ibot speaking at the American banquet said America would defend tho peace terms. There was the fullest harmony ns to France’s aims—namely the restoration of Alsace Lorraine, Belgium, Servia Poland, V mania and the invaded French territory. Tho achievements of peace would be easier, if, instead of the Kaiser the Allies were dealing with the representatives of German democracy. Victory was certain provided we do nob weaken at the supreme moment.
