The Legislative Council met at 2.30

p.m., Hon. Barr moved the Address-in-Re-ply to the Governor-General’s speech from the throne. This was seconded by Major Harris.

The address was agreed to and the Council adjourned till 2.30 p.m., on Wednesday.

The House met at 2.30. p.m

Mr. Anstey gave notice to ask Government if they will introduce legislation exempting small estates of soldiers who have lost their lives,.in the cause of the Empire, from death duties. Replying (o Mr. Vigor Rrown. Mr. Massey said it was intended to bring down an amendment to the War Regulations Act this session, when the whole question of freedom of speech, under tho regulations, could come under review.

' The following Bills wore introduced and read a first time: —

Political Corruption Bill (Mr. Payne). Unregistered Nurses Registration Bil (Mr. Payne).

tins Act Amendment, Bill, (Mr. Payne) .

Napier High School Empowering Bill (Mr. Brown).

After a lively debate, leave to introduce tho Suppression of Titles and Abolition of Pomp and Ceremony Bill (Kir. Payne), was refused, the decision on the question being 4, against 48. Ati the evening sitting of the House, Mr. Smith (Pahiatua) moved, and Mr. Buddo seconded the Address-in-Reply to tbe Governor-General’s speech. Both speakers expressed genera] approval of the administration of the National Government.

The debate was adjourned till' 2.30 p.m., next day and the House rose at 9.30 p.m..
