CANON BEAN'S JUBILEE.
A special service was held in the St Mary’s Church, Addington, on Friday evening, commemorative of the 25th anniversary of Canon W. S. Beau’s appointment as Vicar of the Church. The Rev E. E. Chambers, an old friend of Canon Bean, preached a vigorous sermon, taking for his text a passage from the 16th chapter of St Matthew, “Thou art Christ, the son of the living God.” '
During the sermon he made reference to' the vicar, and said that he had known him even before lie went to the West Coast, and before he took Holy Orders. The speaker related incidents of his ministry on the West Coast, where, he said, he found the people both kind and hospitable. Referring to St Mary's Church, he said that he remembered the time when it looked something like a lighthouse. It was an extraordinary looking edifice, and he did not know what to make of it. Now it had been enlarged twice, and Canon Bean had ministered within it for 25 years, for both of which things they had . cause for thankfulness. Canon Bean was one of the few really evangelical ministers left of the Church of England, and it was a grand thing to think that he had the congregation’s affection and they liis. He hoped.that this good feeling would exist for many years to come, and that God would ldess them, the Vicar, and his family. During the service special hymns were sung, and the Holy Sacrament partaken of.
