The Federal revenue for the past year was £36,804,311, compared with £30,762,316 -for tlie previous year. Actually the expenditure was £1,323,416 more than the revenue. 5 The total war services cost £58,732,881, against £41,201,946 the previous year. ~ , Of -this £8,014,661 was paid from revenue, and £39,660,769 being raised in the Commonwealth- and £11,000,000 borrowed from Britain. In addition £20,233,115 was carried forward t-lip war loan fund of 1915-16, making £20,175,662 available for 1917-18. SHEEP SALES. SYDNEY, July 3. At the stud sheep sales tlie demand for merinos was firm and was steadily maintained. No fancy figures were recorded though rates were materially better than last year. There was an exceedingly keen demand for British breeds. Record prices for New Zealand lots were: Border Leicesters, on behalf of Dowthwaite, Nixon, and Sutherland, ranged from fiv r t.o 50 guineas: Corriedales on behalf of Mr. C. H. FJnsor ranged from nine to 72$ guineas.
