DEATH OF DAVID CURIE.
It is with regret tht we record the death of Mr David Curie, who passed away peacefully yesterday at the residence of his step-son, Air J. S. Dawes, Devonport, Auckland. The* late Mr Curie, who was over 80 years of age, was °ne of the original proprietors of the Wellington ‘Post.” He came to Hokitika in 1860, under engagement to Mr. Klein to take charge of this paper,, which was then called the “Evening Star.” Twelve months later lie started the “Hokitika Guardian," which he conducted for two years, when Mr Klein died. Mr Curie then bought the “Star” and the two papers amalgamated under the combined name of the “Hokitika Guardian and Evening Star.” Mr Curie sold out to Mr Dawes in 1893, and the latter in 1898 sold out his interests
Mr Curio went to Danncvirke, where he took over a paper, later retiring and living in Auckland where ho has been in failing health for some time. Mrs Curie is left to mourn the loss of a good husband Many friends in this district will extendi their sympathy to her. and the relatives, and regret the passing a good citizen-
