Captain. J. Thompson, who is reported wounded, was formerly a master at th e AVaitaki Boys’ High School.
Private A\ T . J. Sherlock, son of Mr Sherlock, AVestport, was admitted to Walton-on-Thames Hospital, England, on June 10th, suffering from gunshot wounds in .the right shoulder.
Corporal A. G. Nissan, reported wounded, is a brother of Mrs Chris. Xissen, of Greymouth. Corporal Nissan enlisted at Palmerston North with tho 12th Reinforcements.
Rifleman R.. Lockhart has been wounded in the right leg arid admitted to hospital on June Bth. Rifleman Lockhart was employed on tho railway at Greymouth. - .. . ,
Included in lato casualty lists as wounded appears the names of A. O. Excel 1, tho contractor for ithe Hokitika abattoirs, and Mr Hannah, who was for a few months stationed at Hokitika under the Department of Agrioulture.
Tho Minister of Defence has received advice that Major-Goneral Sir Andrew 11. Russell, commanding tho New Zealand! Division in the field, has been slightly wounded. Fortunately the injury is so slight that General Russell is able to remain with the unit.
Mrs P. Casey, of High Street, Greymouth, has received word 1 that her son, Private William A. Casey, had been wounded on Juno Bth. Private Casey, a prominent footballer and a member of the United Club, left with the 18th Reinforcements. lie has a brother, Mr Thomas Casey, for many years a resident of South Westland. ,
The death took place on Hie wesuew. front, of Corporal Carlton * Flayell son of Mr Flavoll, manager of the Wellington branch of the Westport Coal Company. Corporal Flavoll, who was only 21 years of ago, sailed with the 7th Contingent. He was a nephew of Mrs Hillyar, of Westport, and Mrs Friend, of Waimangaxoa.
Private 11. Ward, brothor of Mr George Ward, of Coni Street, Reef ton, has been killed in action i n France. Tli© deceased resided in Reefton for j two or three years, and then went to 1 Canterbury, where h© was engaged in farming pursuits. Ho enlisted in the 16th Reinforcements.
Privato James Ream, formerly of Brunnerton, and late of Tauranga, t was killed in-action on-Juno Bth. The deceased, who was a splondid typ° °f manhood, and a deservedly popular young man, left New Zealand with the 18th Reinforcements. Ho was a son of Mr Samuel Ream, formerly of Bnmnerton, and a brother of Mrs S. T. Peters, of Kumara.
Very general regret was voiced last evening when it became known that Corporal James Andrews, son of Mr and Mrs John Andrews, of Hall street, had died of his wounds received a few days ago in France. The deceased, who joined from Grey mouth, was well known throughout th© Coast, and very popular among a large eirclo of friends. Two other brothers aro at . tli® front, Alfred being also reported wounded a day or two ago. The family will have the deep sympathy of the community.
