CATTLE-STEALING
YOUNG MAN-FOUND GUILTY
SERIOUS* ALLEGATIONS BY PRISONER.
Hamilton, June 14 In the Supreme Court this afternoon., a young man named Harold Keys wa% found guilty 011 three charges of cattle-stealing at Frank ton. Sentence was deferred till Friday morning. The prisoner, who conducted his made serious allegations against W. Davis, manager for Ewen McGregor, owner of the cattle. He alleged that Davis had sold him the cattle in question. Davis denied having had any dealings with the prisoner in the matter whatever. Prisoner was unable to produce any receipts, stating that he had destroyed all the papers after he had been called up in the ballot, preparatory to going into, camp. Prisoner absconded from bail in March last when first charged, but subsequently was arrested at Mangaweka. He said that efforts had been made to induce him to turn King’s evidence, it being alleged that he was a member of a gang of cattle-stealers in this district. • This he denied.
