Monday, June iS. The monthly meeting of the Committee was held ut 7.30 p.lll. Present —Messrs J. Lloyd (Chairman), Gooch, Stevenson, Hickson, Harrop, J. Aitken.—Received. , From Same, stating that Mr j Grimmond was to arrange ior repairs to South Beach School, and . that the Foreman is to carry out repairs at Hokitika School.—Re- . ceived. From Same, re cultivation of waste school ground. —Received. The Chairman stated that Hide Berry had suggested that if the section iu front of the school were ploughed the scholars could put it down in potatoes and lie would look after it. He also suggested that the reserve on the east Sale Street be offered to the Education Board to use it if they desired. After discussion it was resolved on - the motion of Messrs Harrop and King that the proposal be approved and the Board be notified accordingly, it being stated that the area in the school ground affected was about one acre and in the reserve four acres. From Same, re election of school committees. —Received. From Same, re householders resolution.—Received. From Same, re western porch of Hokitika school, stating the architect would inspect and report.—R eceived. From Same, re Truant Officer.— Received. From Education Department, re householders resolution. —Received From Rector, forwarding- application for leave of absence from Miss Aitken.—Received. From Rector, reporting the roll number for May was 361 and average attendance 3287. All teachers, except Misses Aitken and Willetts absent owing to illness, were present at all times the school was open. Fie asked for the installation of a telephone at the school which would be of decided utility.—Received. It was resolved to appiy to the Board for telephone connection. From Stafford Committee, appointing Mr Aitken as their delegate. —Received. From Kauieri Committee, api pointing Mr F. Selby.—Received. From teacher, South Beach, re- ; porting an average" attendance of I 25.4 out of a roll number of 26 ; also asking again for the repairs to be attended to.—Received. The Chairman moved that a copy , of the teacher’s letter be sent on to the Bpartl, with the request that the Committee be authorised to at once carry out the very urgent and long [ delayed repairs asked for.— , Seconded by Mr Preston and carried. , The Visiting Committee (Messrs - Lloyd and Gooch) reported that : repairs previously mentioned were 1 still required, nothing having been » done since last meeting—Received ; ; the requirements to be again sent ‘ on to the Board, with a request for ‘ speedy attention. 1 Messrs Hickson and Bennett were appointed visitors.
