He was ab- ; 1 solutely astonished that there was a ; ! Warden in tlio district who, under the j circumstances, would not grant the application for protection of a claim of a ■! man who was going to the front Continuing, the Chairman said ho was going to see that protection would be granted to men who were going to the
front. In doing so he was attending to his duty. He would adjourn the case until he saw that the man was fmiy. protected before going. Ho though it was absurd to grant protection for six months, especially when the man 1 was going to the front. ! Vincent Robert Stopforth, carter, Ho--1 kitika, (Mr. Murdoch), —Appellant j stated ho was single aged 21 years, he j had nine brothers, one tjt the front, the I remainder being under military age. 1 . Humphreys, (Mr Murdoch).—Appellant stated he was single and 29 years of age. He had five brothers. Two brothers had been killed, one in France. He was supporting his mother by manag ing the farm,— Adjourned sine. die. Robert James Ferguson, Hari Han, (Mr. Murdoch).-r Appellant stated h<?
was single and 23 years of age. He has four brothers, two at the front. With his brother he was managing the farm while the two other brothers were at the front. After considerable discussion the appeal was allowed until the 20th August.
Kumara Dairy Factory, (Mr. Murdoch), appealed on behalf of M. H. Wallace.—Mr Murdoch in giving evidence for the Kumara Dairy Factory, stated if their manager had to go into camp it would mean the closing down of the Kumara Factory. Appellant stated he was single and 21 years of age. He had four brothers, one at the front, one on extended leave, and one rejected. lie could not get his brother, who had considerable experience in cheese-making to take appellant’s position as he had a position ns manager of a factory at Thames. Witness had 7 years experience in but-ter-making.—Adjourned for one month t,o make enquiries re his brother.,
