AN AFFECTING SCENE

NimVCASTIJE HONOURED. (Received This Dav at 9.30. a.m.) LONDON, June 18. There were affecting scenes at the investiture by the King at Newcastle a<t mid-day, after "attending the Cathedral. Fifty thousand people assembled on the football ground. Several widows, with infant sons clinging to their skirts, received decorations. A young widow fainted on receiving the Military Medal, and others wept. There were 120 decorated by the King. " The Queen motor-launched on the Tyne, escorted- by aeroplanes and submarines. She conversed with tho workers in the dock in which the Prince Albert was lying.
THE KING’S MESSAGE
LONDON, June 18,
Tho King has sent a message to the Lord Mayor of Newcastle. —“The loyalty and fortitude- of the industrial army fills me with courage and confidence. I am convinced, that under God’s guidance it will help us to victory.”
