IN MIDST OF A STORM.
GISBORNE, June loth
The schooner Kaio experienced tho force of the recent storm. On Monday night at 10 o’clock, when on the port tack off Portland, a barque coming in the opposite direction collided with her and carried away the mizzen rigging foresail and part of the bridge of tho Kaio. Tho barque’s yafds did no damage to the hull, not striking, but just grazing the stern. The barque’s identity was not ascertained. The weather was very thick and the crew saw nothing till tho towering vessel was on top of them.. No words passed between tho vessels.
STEAMER FLOATED OFF. DUNEDIN, Juno 15. The steamer Notare floated off r l Waikawa' last night. She was pumped drv and moored alongside Currie’s Wharf. DANNEVIRKE,, Juno 15. Waipawa Hospital Board yesterday confirmed the terms agreed on to settle the action bronught by Private O. Hill, claiming £3OO to compensation, for damages allegedly sustained by X Ray treatment at Dannevirke hospital. Tho resolution adopted stated that at instance of Government the Board approved of the payment of £3OO to Hill in full settlement of the claim and costs, 'half bo paid by Government and half by tlie Board The Board disclaimed any liability on the part of tho Government, the Board’s officers or sevants, and passed a. resolution expressing confidence in tho matron and regretting its inability to make public the details in regard to tho matter.
