A SOLDIER’S DEATH
CHRISTCHURCH, This Day
A relative of tho late Capt. A. Atkinson has received a message showing the report tliat he died some time after being wounded was incorrect. Atkinson’s sister in London cablos that on Juno stli. he went out to help an officer who was apparently wounded and was shot. “Died gloriously instantly.”
A LONG VOYAGE
GISBORNE, June 14
The A.rahura arrived this morning after a record passage of 56J hours from Napier, the steamer being no,<to most of the time.
MINERS AGREE
AUCKLAND, June 14.
A full settlement has been reached in the Taupiri Coal Mines disputes. Working conditions are to bo the same as under the old agreement, but the war bonus of 10 per cent is to be increased to 171 per cent, for piece workers. The term of the agreement is for three years or until six months after peace.

At tho Supreme Court to-day, Frederick John Scanlon who pleaded guilty in tho lower court to forgery, came up for sentence. Justice Sim fined accused £lO.
