Headquarters reporta that despite the lull we continue to annex bits of ground and stretches of trenches Wo now hold a line over two thousand yards in advance of the line attacked east of Messinos. The whole situation at Mcssines is most satisfactory. ‘
CONTINUED PROGRESS
HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT.
WELLINGTON, This Dav. The High Commissioner reports from London. June 14th at 1 p.m., General Haig reports our further advance eastward of Messines, combined with pressure northward of the front of attack compelled the enemy to abandon an important sector on the first line of defensive works between the river Leya and Styves. We followed tho enemy closely and considerably - progressed eastward of Ploegstreet Wood. We also gained ground in the neighbourhood of Gapafcrd.
IN THE WEST. LONDON, June 13. Field-Marshall Sir Douglas Haig reports : Since 6th. Juno our total captures are 73-12 men; ‘47 guns, 242 mach-. ine guns and 60 trenchmortars. Wo drove off the raiders north-west of •Lens. We brought down yesterday six enemy aeroplanes.
FORCED TO RETIRE. LONDON, June 14. Important sectors of the Ploegsteert front have been abandoned by the Germans.
