TUESDAY, June 12

The Westland County Advisory Committee of the National Efficiency Board met at the County Chambers at nt noon. Present - Messrs 11. Norman, (County Chairman) in the chair, J. S. Lang, R. Houlistori. G A. Pcry, S. ;< Q. Ferguson, J. ,1. Mclntosh and B. Want. The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed and the outward correspondence approved. 1X WARD CORRESPONDENCE. From the Inter-Wnngangi Dairy Coy. stating in reply to enquiry that the butter fat tax was objectionable and if enforced the directors would seiiously con sider the making of ’butter: also pointed out that the calling up of the Second Division men in the diswould have the effect of seriously curtailing the output of cheese from tliedistrict.—‘Received, and forwarded to the. Commissioner. From National lEffioiency Board stating the Government had decided definitely with the butter fat levy—Received. ■'From same forwarding copies of Women’s War Work for distribution : stating out of pocket coxpenses incurred the Committee would he refunded : expressing pleasure at the manner jn which the inaugural work of the Committee had been undertaken: supplying forms for use by trustees in connection with the taking over of soldier’s farms: explaining that territorials engaged in sowing wheat could bo exempted from attending camps upon formal application: forwarding power of attorney etc., for taking over soldier’s farming interests.—Received. APPOINTMENT OF OFFICERS.

Messrs G. A. Perry, .T. J Mclntosh and D. J. Evans were nominated for the appointment of trustees for the district subject to approval by the Commissioner.

Mr S. 0 Ferguson, was elected with the Chairman as representatives to attend the meetings of the Central Committees.. The. following auxiliary members (with power to add to their number) were appointed to the Committee for their respective districts: —The Mayor o fKumara and Ross; James'Fitzgerald, Christchurch Road; G S. Robertson, Hari Hari; John Butler, Wat area ; J.. Ritchie Bruce Ray; W. I). Nolan Okuru.

FOOD SUPPLY. Mr. Ward thought the Committee should give a lead in regard to the growing of more food supplies, notably potatoes. The movement lie believed would be generally supported. He moved that a leaflet." bo distributed pointing out the necessity 6t growing potatoes. Mr. Houliston seconded the motion which was supported by all members present who realised the importance of tluy suggestion. It was pointed out that" the past season had proved that with care and attention potatoes could be grown very successfully and if all assisted the supply for the district- could be augmented and importation avoided, thus leaving supplies available elsewhere for the benefit of other committees.

The motion was agreed to. Mr. .Mclntosh brought up the case of.nii essential worker called in a recent bnllot be thought -too valuable to the industry he was engaged in to be taken from his o'cciipation. It was resolved to advise the Commissioner of the.ease; and suggest if it was thought desirable from a production point of view to 'see that man be retained at his post to recommend accordingly This concluded the meeting which adjourned with a vote of thanks sine die.
