WELLINGTON, .Tune 12.—A Gazette Extraordinary issued to-day extends the term during which notes of banks doing business in the Dominion may be made legal tenler till 31st. December next. FIRE IN DEFENCE STORE. DUNEDIN, June 12.—A fire was discovered in the Defence Office stme early this morning. A stock of khaki overcoats, sndlery, uniform packets, etc., was seriously damaged. The loss, including damage to the building is estimated at about £IOO. There was no insurance. SIX O’CLOCK CLOSING. FETLDING, June 12.—A public meeting called by the Mayor and representing all classes and interests, last night carried unanimously a proposal in favour of 6 o’clock closing. MORE FLOODS.
PAEROA, June 12.—Owing to the heavy rain, the Waihou anl Ohinemuri rivers are flooded. All the lowlying parts of the borough and surrounding district aro under water. There is no serious damage.

HAMILTON, June 12. Leekio was sentenced to five years’ hard labour for manslaughter.
