WESTLAND HOSPITALS AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

TUESDAY, JUNE 12th, 1917

The Board held its monthly meeting at 8.10 p.m. Present:—Messrs J. J Breeze, (President) It. Wild, A. Clifton. G. H. Blank, T W Bruce, F. Roberts. H. Noaman, J. Griramond, and A. Hutchison.

The' minutes' of the previous meeting acre read and outward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE On the motion of the Chairman a hearty vote of thanks was placed on the minutes recording appreciation of the services of the retiring President (Mr. A. Clifton.)

From Treasurer reporting receipts—£2B7 14s lOd, payments £859 13s Bd, debit balance £lßl7 13s 7d, outstanding levies and subsidy £1220 10s —Received.

From Manager, National Bank Hokitika,'agreeing to grant overdraft up to £ISOO on certain conditions.—Received. From Wellington Board, re forming a Charitable Aid Board’s association.— Received.

From Inangnhua Board, notifying patient- from Westland had been admitted—. Received.

From Hospital Department, Wellingon in reference to supplies of requisites. —Received.

From Inspector-General, Wellington asking for informatim as to medical vacancies etc.—Received.

From Public Trustee agent, Hokitika, ,in reference to order made by a patient at Kumara.—Received. It was resolved to object to any reduction in the amount of the order.

From Hon. G. W Russell, Wellington, stating every endeavour would ba made to find a medical ofTjeer for Westland—Received.

From same, promising consideration to Board’s request in reference to the levy, and stating that he would defer consideration of the closing of Kumara Hospital, until he had visited tho district.—Received.

From Hon. W Fraser, Wellington, enclosing memorandum stating the Hospital Department were unable to obtain a medical officer for Otira.—Received.

From Kumara Committee enclosing accounts £IOB 4s 9d and receipts £sßFrom Otira Committee protesting at non-appointment of\ a medical officer at Otira.—Received. From same forwarding £24 receipts, and accounts.—Received.

From Auditor General, Wellington forwarding balance sheet certified to with exceptions.—Received. From Medical offi'cers, notifying three cases of infectious disease. —Received, already taken. REPORTS. From Surgeon Superintendent Westland Hospital reporting patients on 30th April totalled 48, admitted during May, 8 males 4 females. Total treated 43 males 17 females—6o Discharged cured 4 males, 7 females, relieved 2 males died 2 males. Total discharged 15. In hospital 31st May, 35 njales, 10 females—4s. In hospital for two months, 24 males 5 females—29.—Received.

From matron, Kumara Hospital reporting 31 patients on Ist May, admitted during month 6, Total treated 37. Died 1, discharged 6, remaining on May 31st 30.—Received. Frdm jHoq[s<f Committee Westland Hospital reporting satisfactory conditions at institution and asking for ador Jal sjfeeftinjgi accommodation (for staff.—Received. It was resolved to carry out the work ns outlined 'cost not to exceed £4O. From Finance Committee rocommending payment of accounts amounting to £1420 6d 4d for payment.—Received and agreed to. APPLICATIONS MASTER AND MATRON KUMARA. Applications for the positions of Master and Matron at Kumara were received as follow?: — Mr and Mrs J. E. Dawson, Hokitika. Mr and Mrs James Mclvor, Beach Road. Kumara. Mr and Mrs. Gordon Harcourt„Ku-. mara.

Mr and Mrs S. T. Peters, Kumara. Mr. and Mrs W. E. Phillips, Ross. Mr and Mrs Phillips were unanimously appointed to the position, tho date of their taking up their duties to be adranged by tho Chairman. The appointment causing a vacancy at Tolara Hospital, it was decided to invite applications for the position, returnable in a week, at a salary of £l3O per annum. • r DISTRICT NURSE. Applications were received for (the position of District Nurse for South Westland from:— Mrs J. Percival, Dunedin. Eleanor Traynor, Dunedin. Frances A Foster, Wellington. After considerable discussion Mr. Norman moved that no appointment bo made. Seconded by Mr. Blank, and carried. Roberts and Grimmond voting against Tho Board rose at 10.30 pm, ,
